The Wal-Mart Supercenter on Whittlesey Blvd. seemed the safest place in Columbus Thursday night for several hours.
That was due to the more than 60 law enforcement officers and personnel in the store helping local children shop for Christmas gifts that, without their help, would probably never been purchased.
Fourty seven children arrived at the store shortly after 5 p.m., blue lights flashing and sirens blazing, for the annual Shop with a Cop program, sponsored the local Fraternal Order of Police.
The children were assisted by members of the Columbus Police Department, Muscogee County Sheriffs Department, Muscogee County Marshal's Office, Muscogee County Prison, Georgia State Patrol and Columbus State University Police.
