Course Details

Supervision Level 2

Course Hours: 40.0 Hours

Course Description

This course is the second of three required for POST Supervisory Certification. Topics include supervisory leadership, training and development, performance evaluation, employee counseling, employment law, staffing, discipline, and performance management.

 

Prerequisites

Successful completion of Supervision Level 1.

 

Special Notes:

Printed material will not be issued; students must print or download class materials. The books required for reading will be issued the first day of class. Dress Code: Students are to report for class wearing their department Class A, Class B uniform, or business attire. Shorts, jeans, and t-shirts are PROHIBITED.

 

All students must register online via GPSTC website. Students desiring to take Supervision 2 must complete Supervision 1.

 

Students must furnish their own laptop for the materials to take the courses offered.

 

Class size is limited to 60 students. Class starts at 8:00am. to 5:00pm.

Specialized Patrol Techniques @ SCSO

Course Description:

This course provides the peace officer with a working knowledge of the current techniques of traditional and specialized patrol programs, as well as information on current and future trends in patrol service.

Special Notes: This is a core course for P.O.S.T. Advanced Certification.

 

Field Training Officer @ TPD

Course Description:

The Field Training Officer Program combines on-the-job instructions with objective evaluation and documentation, thereby enabling students to incorporate the best method within their own department. This course is open to any certified law enforcement officer. To successfully complete the course students must achieve a minimum score of at least 70% on a written examination.

  • Developing an FTO Program

  • Motivation

  • Case Studies

  • Legal Issues

  • Counseling & Instructional Techniques

Special Notes:

The course is open to any certified law enforcement officer. To apply for certification, you must have three years of law enforcement experience (two years with present department).

Course Description:

The goal of this course is to provide officers with an overview of the United States Constitution and Bill of Rights by emphasizing the roles of the 4th, 5th, 6th, 8th, and 14th Amendments in law enforcement operations. Additional topics include the State and Federal Court System, legal research, legal authority, police - citizen encounters, warrantless searches and seizures, the exclusionary rule, lineups and pretrial identifications, interviews, confessions, and Miranda.

This is a core course for P.O.S.T. Intermediate Certification.

Course Description:

This course is designed to provide training necessary to develop the proper mindset, threat awareness, and skills needed to improve an officer's odds of surviving various dangerous situations. Officers will receive training in firearms skills, patrol tactics, defensive tactics, vehicle stops, domestic disputes, and building searches.

The goal of this course is to provide the peace officer with a working knowledge of effective communication skills. Specific topics that will be discussed will include: the communication process, effective interaction with others, effective listening techniques, and cultural awareness sensitivity.

Emergency Medical Responder @ TPD

Course Description:

The goal of this course is to provide the peace officer with specialized emergency medical knowledge to provide basic life-saving skills within the course of their daily duties. This course curriculum follows the Emergency Medical Responder curriculum, provided by the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons, but will not provide the testing for NAEMT National Registry.

Special Notes:

This is a core course for P.O.S.T. Intermediate Certification. Students must show current CPR certification through P.O.S.T. record or CPR card.

 

Search Warrants & Affidavits @ SCSO

September 5 – 7, 2023

Course Hours: 24

Course Description:

Through classroom presentation and discussion, this course provides Georgia officers with current warranted search and seizure standards as provided by Georgia statute and case law of the Georgia Court of Appeals, the Georgia Supreme Court, the Eleventh Circuit Court of Appeals, and the United States Supreme Court.

 

Topics to be covered include the search warrant requirement, obtaining a search warrant , court order, establishing probable cause, sources of information, independent investigations, authoring the "no-knock" clause, and execution and return of warrants. Students will prepare a search warrant application and an end of course performance examination.

Special Notes: This is a core course for P.O.S.T. Advanced Certification.

 

Interviews & Interrogations @ TPD

Advanced Traffic Law @ TPD

October 3 – 5, 2023

Course Description:

This course is designed to assist law enforcement officers to better perform their duties by providing thorough coverage of the Official Code of Georgia Annotated Title 40 to include current DUI case law, the Teenage & Adult Driver Responsibility Act (TADRA), commercial vehicle law, and occupant protection laws.

Special Notes: This is a core course for P.O.S.T. Advanced Certification.

 

Advanced Firearms @ SCSO

October 23 – 26, 2023

Course Hours: 32

Course Description:

This training includes instructions in firearms, range safety, weapons care, maintenance, and performance with a service pistol. Developmental range exercises will include engaging multiple targets; failure-to-stop drills, engaging moving targets, and decision reaction. To successfully complete the course students must achieve a minimum score of at least 90% on a performance examination.

 

Students must bring:

  • Duty Sidearm

  • Duty Gear

  • Minimum of 700 Rounds of Ammunition
